As a lifelong animal lover, Veronica
Zimmerman has owned a varied group of
animals. In her lifetime she has had the
pleasure to have grown up with geese,
chickens, parrots, turtles, cats, fish, rabbits,
mice and dogs. Although she has been able to
enjoy the companionship of these animals,
she has decidedly focused on one, Mankind’s
best friend.
Veronica has always shared a connection to animals; however, she began
her canine training and rehabilitation endeavor when she realized the
cruel reality that dogs face in our society today. She started working
with rescue dogs that had been abandoned and left to die in the desert
and in rural areas. Sadly, some dogs could not be saved due to the
severity of their health and mental state. After understanding the
benefits of positive reinforcement, she concentrated on helping the
emotional state of these animals with hopes of finding them loving and
caring homes where they could enhance both their new family's life as
well as their own.
Today Veronica is an
enthusiastic dog trainer;
training instructor/
administrator of special
projects at Handi-Dogs; and
owner/ head trainer of
V’s Cloud 9 K-9 LLC. Her
training style is resourceful,
patient, creative and
encouraging. Through
positive reinforcement,
Veronica educates people and
their dogs on how to achieve
a rewarding and successful
relationship as a team.
Veronica understands that every dog and
owner is different. This is why she not only
takes training methods in consideration but
more importantly the principals of training
to personalize it to the needs of both owner
and pet to create a customized learning
experience in their environment. This helps
the owner-pet team achieve better results in
behavior modification by extinguishing
unwanted behaviors and learning wanted
behaviors. An example is having the dog sit
politely to greet a stranger instead of
jumping on them.

What Do People Say About V's Cloud9 K-9?

"Veronica is a gifted dog trainer. Her
understanding of canine body language is
truly phenomenal.
She instructs in a fast-paced, humorous
style using fantastic multimedia
presentations. Her handouts and homework
assignments really maintain the learning
process between classes. Most important,
Veronica is patient and kind with her
human students. Take a class with her and
watch your relationship with your canine
companion blossom!"

"Veronica has a gift! In all the years that I
have been working with dogs and their
owners, I have never seen anyone work as
well with reactive dogs as Veronica does. I
rank her right up there with Emma
Parsons. She has a joy and a passion for
working with that population that is
humbling and oh so beautiful to witness!"

"Two years ago I purchased my wonderful
lab, Watson, from a breeder. I took Watson
for training to (Training group/trainer's name
withheld) when Watson was three months
old.
During the training Watson developed
Valley Fever and was on medication. There
were some days that we couldn't practice.
We never missed a class, though. One day,
we were to have our dogs in a "down"
position and were shown how to do this using
the choke collar. The trainer from (facility
name withheld) who was working with the
agility class came over to help others. She
came up to Watson, grabbed his choke collar
and literally yanked him down twice, then
left. I started shaking as if she did this to me!
I just sat down by Watson and apologized. I
felt there simply must be a better way to
train.
I then took Watson through a series of
Clicker Training with Veronica at V's Cloud
9 K-9 LLC and he performed beautifully. He
is so anxious to please. We have fazed out
the food and he just loves being patted as his
reward. Veronica also trains at Handi-
Dogs. She helped me observe various dog
behaviors, enlarged pupils, excessive
panting, lip lick, all that have their own
meaning in "dog language". This was a most
rewarding experience for both of us. We are
going to continue with this training so he
can become certified as a helping dog and
have children read to him in the public
libraries.

This is when she realized the importance
and power of the human-dog bond. Through
Positive training both people and dogs could
assist each other to fulfill their needs.
Veronica was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes
at age 9. As an adult she developed severe
complications due to diabetes which
lead to her Kidney and Pancreas transplant
in May of 2005.
Today, Veronica is no longer a Diabetic,
however, she knows and understands, first
hand, the effects Diabetes can have on your
life and those around you. Diabetic Alert
Dogs can provide a tool to better glucose
control and emotional support to people
who are insulin dependant.
